Handmade Stoneware from Yorkshire

Nerikomi

Nerikomi is a Japanese technique for creating pottery in multiple colors of clay. The technique is also called neriage or agateware.

This collection is my take on it, and I am using black and white porcelain. All other colours are mixed in with pigments. I love how unpredictable this process is and can spend hours loosing myself experimenting.

Like so often in life, my journey started with what was available to me: earthenware and terracotta. I wasn't keen on the glazes that the studio offered, so I thought I just use the clay. Back then I did not know that this is the ancient art of Nerikomi.

I have been working with this technique since 2011 and use both Stoneware clays and Porclain. Here are a few photos of pieces I have made in the past. You can read more about my journey in my blog post here.
