Rebranding from SolidagoCeramics to NadineBlakemoreCeramcis

If you are following me on my social channels (are you?) - you will know this already ... I am a keen gardener. And one plant symbolises my childhood like no other - Solidago or Goldenrod.

A solidago Plant
Solidago Plant also know as Goldenrod

Why chose the name Solidago?

I had chosen the name SolidagoCeramics because I love the Solidago plant. It's also called Goldenrod, which would have been a nod to my German roots, but I decided that "rod" can be misleading so I went with SolidagoCeramics. In hence side, I dont really know why I did not use my name, but hey, i just didnt.

Early beginnings

When I started out, I felt a real buzz. Creating a logo and making business cards, a website, flyers and so on. I loved all this and although the technology was great, you cannot compare the tools we have available now. I think I had Canva, but no AI, one had to have an image or drawing as a starting point. I am an engineer and working this all out was fun, but create a proffessional logo and all that, well - it is safe to say that I am not a graphic designer. But in the end, it does not really matter what the logo looks like, its important to have good products and I focussed on that.

Rebranding to NadineBlakemoreCeramcis

What does Solidago have to do with ceramics? It does not and for a few years this did not matter. As a family, we moved house in 2019, rebuild our new home and I developed the pottery. And it wasnt until 2023 that I realised that my love for plants does not neccessarily need to be reflected in my business.

Leeds Library and the BIPC

The Business & IP Centre in the Leeds City region is a thriving community in the Leeds Library and runs regular workshops for entreprenours and small businesses. They offered me a 121 with a marketing expert who then asked the question: Nadine - "what does the name have to do with your business? And how can you use it to sell your ceramics?" My answer was nothing and it does not. So yes, eventually I gave in and rebranded to use my name. I dont know if this was the best thing to do or not but at least there is logic to it now and why not.
