Why me - and my ceramics ...?

My work isn’t just about pottery or ceramics; it’s about creating everyday objects that bring joy and a touch of artistry to your home. Based in Menston, Yorkshire, I make unique, handmade ceramics that blend function with beauty. Whether you’re looking for bakeware, gifts, or something special for your garden, I hope you can find somehting in my catalog.

Exploring Clay

My approach to ceramics is pretty straightforward. I focus on making pieces that are not only visually appealing but also practical. Each item is made either on the wheel or shaped by hand using traditional methods such as pinching and slab building. Every piece is glazed by hand with my own glaze and fired in Betty (my kiln) which ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike. This personal touch makes all my ceramics perfect for those who appreciate the charm of handmade goods.

My range now includes everything from baking dishes to mugs, bowls and decorations, as well as a selection of Nerikomi pieces. All my designs are made to fit seamlessly into daily life. Lasagne dishes, for example, are sized so you can place two sheets of pasta side by side without having to break the edges, and they come in two versions, one for a family of two and one for four or more. My mugs have handles with thumb‑rests, making it easier and more comfortable to hold a heavy mug. Every piece is tested in my own home, and only if it stands up to the use by teenagers do I embark on making more.

Each piece reflects Nadine’s dedication to craftsmanship and style.

The Craft Behind the Images

My process starts with selecting the right clay. I prefer clays that offer durability and a smooth finish - in one word - high fired Stoneware. After shaping the clay on my wheel or by hand-building, I let them dry slowly to avoid cracks. Then I fire it to 1000 degee C. Next is the glazing stage where I apply my homemade glazes which create finishes that look and feel unique once the piece is fired to 1230 degree C.

I think, one of the things that sets my work apart is my attention to detail. And, I hope that this level of care means my work is not just functional but also a conversation starter. If you’re someone who enjoys hosting, these pieces can add a special touch to your table setting.

Finding the Perfect Handmade Ceramic Piece

Choosing the right ceramic piece can be overwhelming with so many options out there. Here are some tips I’ve found helpful when selecting ceramics:

  • Consider the use:

    • Are you after something for cooking or serving? My oven to table and bakeware is oven-safe and perfect for cooking.

    • Handwashing - well yes, its recommended but I have been using all my pieces in the dishwasher for years. :-)

    • A piece for the garden - yes, they are frost proof.

  • Think about size: My pieces come in various sizes, so measure your space or think about how you’ll use them. For instance you mum and dad are missing out on homemade lasagne because the traditional forms are too big? No problem - I make them in 1/2 size too.

  • Look for unique details: Small imperfections due to the handmade approach add character and make the piece truly one-of-a-kind.

  • Match your style: My ceramics are mainly in blue and come in simple shapes, which work well in both modern and rustic settings.

How Handmade Ceramics Can Make Everyday Life More Special

There’s something unique about using handmade ceramics daily. They bring a sense of connection to the maker and the materials. When you hold a piece, you can feel the skill that went into it. This connection makes everyday moments, like having a cup of tea or coffee, feel so much more meaningful. Here is a review I recently had from a customer:

"I just wanted to say thank you. I am fussy about my coffee and the cup I drink it from. This is by Nadine Blakemore Ceramics and it’s my favourite!" Google Review October 2026

If you’re looking to add a touch of artistry to your home, my ceramics are a perfect choice. They combine beauty, function, and a personal story. Each piece invites you to slow down and appreciate the little things.

Or if you are looking for a gift - a wedding present or a treat for a friend who loves cooking, my pieces definately stand out from mass-produced items.

I encourage you to explore my collection and find something that speaks to you. I hope this insight into my work inspires you to discover the joy of handmade ceramics. They’re more than just objects - they’re a way to bring creativity and comfort into your daily routine.
